A devastating fire erupted on the general cargo vessel Brielle at approximately 15:45 on July 14, 2012, while the ship was engaged in cargo operations at the Port of Ensenada, La Plata, Argentina. Firefighters battled the blaze for several hours, with firefighting tugs joining the effort to extinguish the flames. Tragically, one individual perished in the hold where the fire originated, and six crew members were injured and subsequently hospitalized. It remains unclear whether the deceased was a crew member or a dock worker. The cause of the fire and the extent of the damages have yet to be determined. Local media reports displayed harrowing images of the m/v Brielle engulfed in flames. Notably, late in 2011, the vessel's crew comprised Russian, Filipino, and Ukrainian nationals.
