Working Conditions Aboard the Clipper-Lis

On September 5, 2010, during the afternoon hours, the bulk carrier Clipper Lis (IMO 9515723), loaded with 18,000 tons of ore, encountered a significant mishap while unmooring in Barranquilla, Colombia. The vessel, believed to be of Spanish origin, lost its moorings and was swiftly carried away by the powerful currents of the Magdalena River. In its turbulent drift, Clipper Lis made contact with the berthed cement bulk carrier Caribe Star (IMO 7124104), which has a deadweight tonnage of 6,947 and was built in 1971 under the Panamanian flag, owned by Transmaritima del Caribe S.A. Following this initial collision, the Clipper Lis further impacted a floating jetty, which subsequently broke free from its moorings, drifting approximately 500 meters downstream. Fortunately, both vessels sustained only minor damages. A thorough inspection of Clipper Lis is scheduled for September 7, 2010, as investigations into the incident are currently underway.
