On March 30, 2017, the Coast Guard successfully conducted two critical medevac operations off the coast of Florida. The first incident involved a 52-year-old man aboard the cargo vessel 'Clipper Talent', located approximately 11 miles west of Egmont Key. Coast Guard Sector St. Petersburg received a distress call at 10:45 a.m. regarding the man's abdominal pain. A quick response was initiated, with a MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter dispatched from Coast Guard Air Station Clearwater. The aircrew reached the scene by 12:45 p.m., hoisted the patient aboard, and airlifted him to Tampa General Medical Hospital for urgent care. Later that day, at 5:09 p.m., watch standers were alerted about a 47-year-old woman suffering similar abdominal issues while on the commercial fishing boat 'Miss Irene', situated roughly 35 miles west of Stump Pass. Another Jayhawk helicopter crew was deployed at 6:07 p.m. and arrived at the location by 7:07 p.m. The crew efficiently conducted the medevac operation, ensuring the woman was swiftly transported to Tampa General Hospital for medical attention. This series of successful medevacs underscores the Coast Guard's commitment to maritime safety and rapid medical response in critical situations.
