In the early hours of December 30, 2015, a maritime collision occurred involving the bulk carrier 'Sandpiper Bulker' and the cargo ship 'Clipper Triumph' at approximately 1:50 a.m. This incident took place in the Port Santos Canal, right near the Santos Fishing Club headquarters located on Ilha das Palmas. The 'Clipper Triumph' was in the process of departing from Santos as the 'Sandpiper Bulker' was making its approach to the port. The aftermath of the collision left the 'Sandpiper Bulker' with significant bow damage and breaches to its foreship, prompting it to dock in Santos for repairs. Meanwhile, the 'Clipper Triumph' sustained damage to its port side and subsequently anchored in the Santos roads area.
