Working Conditions Aboard the Condor-Magallanes

On February 11, 2013, at approximately 06:35 local time, the general cargo ship Safmarine Sahel found itself the target of a pirate assault while navigating near the Bonny Fairway Buoy in Nigeria, coordinates 04°07'N 007°00'E. The vessel was approached by pirates in a speedboat, who began firing upon it and attempted to board. Thanks to the swift maneuvering of the Safmarine Sahel and an increase in speed, the pirates were unsuccessful in their boarding attempt. During the harrowing moments of the attack, the entire crew promptly assembled on the bridge, prioritizing their safety. Fortunately, all crew members remained unharmed, although the vessel did sustain minor damage from gunfire. Maritime authorities continue to monitor the situation.
