On August 31, 2019, at 2:35 PM, the vessel 'Coriolis II' experienced a critical failure of its emergency generator while navigating the St. Lawrence River. This incident occurred approximately 5.74 miles from Matane, Quebec, at coordinates 48 28'42.0" N and 68 30'51.0" W. The ship was making its way from Cap aux Meules to Rimouski and remained stationary as of September 6.

On May 16, 2012, the research vessel "Coriolis II" unexpectedly ran aground on an uncharted shoal off Pointe-des-Monts, located east of Baie-Comeau. This incident took place in an area where depths of 25 meters were previously anticipated. At the time of grounding, there were 24 individuals aboard, including 10 crew members and 14 scientists actively engaged in research. In response to the situation, Transport Canada has directed the ship to dock in Baie-Comeau for thorough inspections. Divers have been scheduled to examine the hull on May 17, and initial assessments revealed no significant damage. Although the ship's mission has been temporarily halted, it may be able to resume once all inspections are concluded, provided that no repairs are necessary. If repairs are needed, the "Coriolis II" would be required to head to drydock in Riouski.
