Working Conditions Aboard the Cosl-Pioneer

In a significant move, Norwegian oil giant Statoil has officially canceled its contract with the COSL Pioneer semi-submersible drilling rig, a full 13 months before the agreement was set to end. The termination comes after the COSL Pioneer has been idle since October 8, 2014, with Statoil unable to secure alternative projects for the unit. The company cited a surplus of drilling rigs in its portfolio as a key reason for the decision, a situation exacerbated by declining crude oil prices that have affected operations.
