On Wednesday, Yantai CIMC Raffles Offshore Limited announced that the COSLProspector, a cutting-edge mid-water semisubmersible drilling rig, has officially embarked on its sea trials off the coast of China. This marks an important milestone as it is the fourth semisubmersible rig delivered to China Oilfield Services Ltd. (COSL). Supervised by Yantai Harbor Pilotage and Beihai Rescue Bureau, the sea trial is organized by a consortium that includes CIMC Raffles, COSL, DNV, CCS, Rolls-Royce, Siemens, and Congsburg. The sea trials are designed to test and commission an impressive 609 sub-systems and 70 various systems, focusing on vital elements such as thrusters, power management systems (PMS), dynamic positioning (DP), close rings, failure mode and effects analysis (FMEA), communication systems, endurance capacity, automated cabins, lifesaving equipment, and mooring solutions. Notably, this trial will feature the first-time application of the engine management system's close ring test on a semisubmersible.
