The tanker 'Butterfly' has found itself stranded off the coast of Bermuda for nearly three days, as it anxiously awaits permission to deliver fuel for the Bermuda Electric Light Company (BELCO). This delay has occurred due to two of the island's three tug boats being out of commission. The mounting mooring fees, which could potentially reach tens of thousands of dollars, will fall to BELCO to cover. Originally scheduled to dock at the Oil Docks in St. George’s on September 19, 2012, at 6:30 a.m., the 'Butterfly' had arrived the previous day at 3:30 p.m. from the Bahamas. However, the vessel could not approach the docks because both the 'Faithful' and the 'Edward M. Stowe' were undergoing repairs. The second tug was anticipated to be operational by the afternoon or evening of September 20, setting expectations for 'Butterfly' to finally reach the dock by at least the morning of September 21. The 'Faithful' experienced mechanical failures on September 18 and has been undergoing repair in Dockyard since then, while the 'Edward M. Stowe', designated as a reserve tug for emergencies, has been out of service for an extended period.
