Crystalia Runs Aground on Paraná River: Incident Details and Aftermath
On October 4, 2019, at approximately 8:30 p.m., the cargo vessel 'Crystalia' experienced a grounding incident at the left bank of the Paraná River, specifically at the 437.5 km mark. The ship was navigating from San Lorenzo to the Netherlands when it went aground. Fortunately, the vessel did not impede other navigation traffic on the river. Efforts from the onboard crew to retrieve the vessel independently were unsuccessful. However, on October 5, assistance arrived in the form of tugs 'Cooper Estibador II' and 'Tumbador I', which successfully helped refloat the 'Crystalia' by around 12:30 a.m. on October 6. Following the incident, the vessel was directed to the Rosario main roads for a standard inspection by the Coastguard.
Glencore Grain Renews Charter for Diana Shipping's Panamax Vessel at Reduced Rate
In a recent development, Glencore Grain, based in Rotterdam, has opted to extend its charter agreement for the Crystalia, a panamax bulk carrier owned by Diana Shipping. This new arrangement will last for an additional 10 to 13 months but comes with a significant discount, as the daily rate has dropped by 43% compared to the previous contract. The Crystalia, with a deadweight tonnage of 77,525 and built in 2014, is now chartered at a gross rate of $9,000 per day, with a 5% commission applied. This decision highlights the ongoing shifts in the shipping industry amid fluctuating market conditions.
