On March 19, 2013, at precisely 2:44 PM, the Sheerness all-weather lifeboat, named "George and Ivy Swanson," was dispatched for a critical medical emergency involving the vessel "Orient Trader." This ship was anchored 5.2 nautical miles away from the lifeboat station in the Thames Estuary when a crew member fell seriously ill, prompting a call for help to the Thames Coastguard. Demonstrating impressive efficiency, the Sheerness lifeboat arrived at the scene within just 15 minutes. The ill Russian seaman was swiftly transferred from the ship to the lifeboat. Upon returning to the Sheerness lifeboat station at 3:28 PM, emergency personnel from Sheppey Coastguard were on hand to facilitate the transfer of the casualty to the South East Coast Ambulance Service for further medical care.
