Cargo Vessel 'Markborg' Faces Engine Failure, Requires Tugs for Safe Port Arrival
On August 30, 2012, at approximately noon, the cargo ship 'Markborg' encountered engine troubles while traveling from Antwerp to Rotterdam. The vessel anchored off Hoek van Holland, positioned between the Maas-East buoy and the lower-light. After two hours of assessment, the decision was made to deploy two tugboats to assist in towing the ship to safety. The 'Smit Hudson' and 'Fairplay 24' were engaged for the operation and took the 'Markborg' in tow at 3:30 p.m. Following the retrieval of its anchor, the tugboats successfully maneuvered the cargo ship upriver, reaching the Botlek at 6:20 p.m. The 'Markborg' was securely moored at the EBS European Bulk Services in Laurens Port by 6:30 p.m. For more details, visit the Dutch report with accompanying photos at http://www.tugspotters.com/site/content/2012/08/markborg-met-motorproblemen/
