On the evening of April 20, 2016, at approximately 7:45 PM, the oil tanker 'Sea Horizon' found itself aground on the Hoofdplaat in the Western Scheldt, just off the Pas van Borsselen. The grounding occurred during low tide while the vessel was navigating the river towards Antwerp, carrying nearly 39,000 tons of gasoline. The 'Sea Horizon' had embarked from Port Neches on March 31. To assist in the refloating operations, four tugboats from Multraship, based in Terneuzen, along with two from Kotug Smit, were dispatched to the scene. With a draft of 11.7 meters, the ship became lodged at around 11 PM, only to be freed as the tide began to rise. Following the successful refloating, the tanker was transported to the Wielingen-North anchorage, located near Flushing along the Flemish coast. There, it was securely moored shortly before midnight to undergo necessary surveys. The 'Sea Horizon' resumed its journey, arriving in Antwerp on April 21 after the surveys had been finalized. The vessel left the port once again on April 23 at 8:45 PM and subsequently dropped anchor at West Hinder Anchorage in the early hours of April 24.
