On April 29, the Stornoway Coastguard helicopter sprang into action to assist the longliner 'Brimoy', located north of the Butt of Lewis, which had a crew member in need of urgent medical attention. The 'Brimoy', a vessel predominantly engaged in cod and haddock fishing in the Barents Sea, was on its inaugural week of a six-week fishing expedition, deploying an impressive array of hundreds of thousands of hooks up to 36 nautical miles behind. After a thorough assessment by onboard paramedics, it was determined that the 61-year-old Faroese fisherman required prompt medical treatment for a shoulder injury. Consequently, the vessel was instructed to head towards Stornoway. Upon arrival at Stornoway harbour, the fishing crew was greeted by Finlay Macleod, Superintendent of the Stornoway Fishermen’s Mission, who facilitated the transport of the injured crew member to Western Isles Hospital for further care. After being treated in the Accident and Emergency department, the fisherman was discharged under the Mission’s care and was able to rejoin his ship, which departed the same day.
