The incident began when the MV EJNAN issued a distress signal reporting that it was under threat from a skiff. Responding swiftly, the VASCO DA GAMA was ordered to investigate the situation. Throughout its approach, the ship maintained radio contact with the MV EJNAN, providing critical advice that enabled the crew to fend off the pirates. Following the guidance, the merchant vessel reported it was no longer in danger. Additionally, a helicopter from the EU NAVFOR British vessel HMS RICHMOND aided the operation by locating the skiff, which was manned by four suspected pirates. Aware they had been detected, the perpetrators attempted to dispose of their piracy equipment by throwing it overboard. The helicopter relayed the skiff's coordinates to VASCO DA GAMA, the nearest naval asset. Moments later, VASCO DA GAMA deployed its own helicopter, which intercepted the skiff, allowing a boarding team to secure the vessel.
