On August 8, 2017, the Port Authority of Trinidad and Tobago (PATT) finalized the termination of the contract for the ferry 'Ocean Flower 2'. This decision came after the supplier failed to deliver the vessel within the newly stipulated timeline outlined in the contract extension. To mitigate potential legal issues, the PATT's legal team advised the contract termination. The authority plans to issue tenders for a new ferry. Transport Minister Rohan Sinanan assured the public that the discontinuation of the 'Ocean Flower 2' contract would not hinder the inter-island sea bridge services, emphasizing that the current fleet of three vessels – 'T&T Spirit', 'T&T Express', and 'Cabo Star' – is adequately fulfilling passenger capacity. Initially, the 'Ocean Flower 2' was scheduled for delivery on July 17, followed by a postponed date of July 26 due to delays. The Port Authority is actively pursuing a replacement passenger ferry for the inter-island route since the withdrawal of the 'Superfast Galicia' earlier this year.

On the evening of September 6, 2023, the passenger vessel 'Orange 1' experienced a significant GPS malfunction while traveling from Jejudo Island to a port on the mainland. As a result of this technical issue, the ship was required to anchor and await assistance from Coast Guard boats to navigate safely. Consequently, the arrival at Maukpo was postponed. The 'Orange 1' was carrying a total of 278 passengers at the time of the incident.

The Stena Lynx III, a high-speed fastcraft from Stena Line, has officially resumed its summer operations on the popular Fishguard to Rosslare route, set to run until September 4. This vessel is capable of accommodating 520 passengers and transporting up to 120 cars, making it a crucial addition for the peak travel season.
