GAC Makes History with First Floating Storage Regasification Unit Handling at Aqaba Port

Aug 20, 2015 09:58

In a significant milestone for Jordan's energy sector, GAC has successfully managed the first Floating Storage Regasification Unit (FSRU) operation at Aqaba port. As the country's Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) imports continue to rise, the Jordanian government has entered a sales and purchase agreement with Shell. This agreement ensures the delivery of approximately 17 million cubic meters of gas daily, which constitutes around 25% of the National Electric Power Company’s energy requirements. GAC Jordan served as the agent for the 'Golar Eskimo,'' which docked at Aqaba to discharge 144,218 cubic meters of LNG imported from Qatar. The company provided a comprehensive suite of integrated services, including online connectivity and logistical support, while managing all manpower, equipment, and marine assets required by the vessel. Notably, GAC Jordan has recently facilitated ship-to-ship LNG transfers, marking another first with the 'Castillo De Santisteban', the inaugural LNG carrier to visit Aqaba, and the 'SCF Melampus', both of which transferred gas to the 'Golar Eskimo.' This LNG was then regasified and supplied as natural gas to NEPCO's power stations. The GAC Jordan team worked tirelessly to deploy six pneumatic fenders, creating a protective zone for the FSRU during operations. This pioneering effort was coordinated with various stakeholders and specialized experts, guided by GAC Jordan's Managing Director, Ghassoub Kawar, and Deputy General Manager, Ibrahim Attieh. Ghassoub Kawar expressed optimism about the future, stating, "As Jordan seeks to enhance its energy supplies, GAC Jordan is eager to manage more gas carriers at Aqaba. With our involvement in the first FSRU operation at this new terminal, we are preparing to accommodate a steady influx of vessels, with an anticipated four LNG carriers scheduled each month."

Golar LNG Partners Buys FSRU Golar Eskimo for $390 Million

Dec 16, 2014 09:16

Golar LNG Limited has made a significant move by finalizing an agreement to transfer its ownership interests in the entities responsible for the floating storage and regasification unit (FSRU) Golar Eskimo to Golar LNG Partners L.P. The deal is valued at an impressive USD 390 million and is anticipated to close in January 2015. Funding for this transaction will come from Golar's existing cash reserves, along with a USD 220 million loan from Golar LNG Limited. Additionally, the deal will involve the assumption of about USD 162.8 million in outstanding bank debt related to the Golar Eskimo at the time of closing. As part of the agreement, Golar LNG will maintain the right to utilize the FSRU and charter it to third parties during a defined period from January to June 2015, with the earnings from this operation earmarked for Golar LNG. In exchange, Golar LNG will remit USD 22 million to Golar Partners in equal monthly payments over the stipulated timeframe. This marks the sixth asset dropdown to Golar Partners since its initial public offering (IPO) in April 2011, reinforcing the ongoing partnership between the two entities.
