Epsilongas Tanker Grounded in Wester Scheldt Incident
On March 6, 2018, a notable maritime incident occurred when the tanker 'Epsilongas' ran aground at 08:45 AM on the Wester Scheldt. The vessel was on its journey from Breafoot Point to Antwerp when it hit the sandy bottom near buoy 81, situated along the Dutch-Belgian maritime border. Quick to respond, the tugboats 'Fairplay 1', 'Lieven Gevaert', and 'Carl' were dispatched to assist in the refloating operations. Their efforts proved successful, and after undergoing mandatory inspections while at an anchorage, the 'Epsilongas' was towed to Antwerp by 'Multratug 7' and 'Multratug 30' around noon. The tanker finally arrived at the ATCP Terminal in harbor dock 4 at 2:15 PM. Following the necessary procedures, the ship set sail again on March 16, with a new course set for Tarragona, expected to arrive on March 25.
