In the late hours of May 5, 2020, at approximately 11:30 p.m., the crew aboard the cargo vessel 'Star Glory' made a troubling discovery while moored at coordinates 00 15 51S, 117 35 06E, roughly 4.7 nautical miles from the Samarinda anchorage. In a significant move to enhance its fleet, US-listed Star Bulk Carriers has officially acquired Oslo-listed Songa Bulk. This acquisition includes a modern fleet consisting of 15 bulkers categorized as 3 Capesize, 10 Kamsarmax, 1 Ultramax, and 1 Supramax bulker. The transaction will see Star Bulk issue 13.7 million new shares, complemented by a cash payment of USD 145 million, with China Merchants Bank Leasing set to finance the cash portion of this deal. Moreover, Star Bulk is poised to bolster its portfolio further with an agreement to purchase 3 Newcastlemax bulkers currently under construction at Shanghai Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding (SWS). The delivery of these ships is anticipated in the fourth quarter of 2018 and the first quarter of 2019. For this acquisition, Star Bulk will issue 3.39 million new shares, while CSSC Shipping Company will support the purchase with a financing agreement of USD 104.4 million.
