On March 27, 2017, a significant anti-drug operation led to the interception of the bulk carrier 'Mount Faber' in the Gibraltar Strait. The vessel was making its way from Colombia to Iskenderun when it was stopped by the Royal Gibraltar Police. A total of 34 officers from various police and customs agencies boarded the ship as part of a coordinated international effort to combat drug trafficking. This action resulted in the remarkable seizure of 108 kilograms of cocaine, valued at approximately £6.5 million. Authorities discovered the narcotics cleverly concealed within a tube that was affixed to the underwater hull of the bulker. Following the operation, 'Mount Faber' was moored at Europa Point, Gibraltar, and was cleared to resume its journey on March 29, after confirming that the crew members were not implicated in the drug smuggling activities.
