On December 8, 2017, the cargo of the vessel 'Estland' faced a severe setback when significant portions of its deck cargo, comprising logs, were lost to turbulent waters off the coast of Veitsiluoto, near Kemoff in Kemi, Finland. In response to the incident, the Finnish Maritime Transport Center issued warnings to other vessels navigating the area about potentially hazardous driftwood spotted approximately half a mile northwest of the Keminkraasel lighthouse. At the time of the incident, the 'Estland' was transporting a total of 1,500 cubic meters of logs, having departed from Kemi at 4:30 a.m. with its destination set for Kotka, with an estimated arrival date of December 10.
