On the morning of February 28, 2017, a dramatic rescue operation unfolded in the North Sea, showcasing the bravery and skill of the crew aboard the support vessel "Esvagt Sigma." The vessel responded to a distress signal from the Norwegian sailing ship "Blåmann," which was taking on water and had lost propulsion approximately 15 miles southwest of Bergen. Conditions were challenging, with winds reaching 6-7 Beaufort and gusts of about 16 m/s. Without delay, "Esvagt Sigma" was diverted from its standby position at the "Transocean Leader" to assist the distressed vessel. The crew promptly launched a Fast Rescue Boat (FRB) to investigate the situation onboard the "Blåmann," which was not only battling water ingress in the engine room but also suffering from a fuel shortage. At the same time, the "Esvagt Alpha" was en route to "Esvagt Sigma" for a scheduled crew change. Upon their arrival, it became apparent that the sailing vessel could not be salvaged. The four crew members aboard the "Blåmann" were successfully evacuated and brought onto the "Esvagt Alpha." Once safely rescued, the crew of the "Blåmann" was transported to shore in Bergen. The tremendous efforts of the crews aboard both Esvagt vessels did not go unnoticed, as they were awarded a well-deserved "Bravo Zulu" for their professionalism and dedication during the rescue operation.
