Tanker Incident in Suez Canal: Ethane Opal Allides with Ferries
On January 15, 2018, at approximately noon, the tanker 'Ethane Opal' encountered a significant incident while navigating near four vessels in the Suez Canal. The vessel, traveling southbound, allided with two ferries in the vicinity of Qantara, located 14 nautical miles from Ismailia. At the time of the incident, the tanker was situated at latitude 30 49 23.89N and longitude 32 19 03.94E. This collision resulted in damage to several structures and led to a breach in the hull, causing water ingress. Following the incident, the tanker was successfully refloated and moved to kilometer mark 47 for necessary repairs. By January 18, repairs were completed in the Great Bitter Lake, ensuring the vessel was restored to operational condition.
