On August 21, the cargo vessel 'Eurocargo Genova' made its way into the Malta Dry Dock for crucial repairs following an allision with a concrete block while departing the Port of Barcelona en route to Livorno. Although the upper section of the bow was previously attended to, a review of the vessel's class status revealed that this repair, along with an urgent fix on the bow thruster, had been mandated by the owners on May 17, with a completion deadline set for August 19. As part of the restoration process, the bulbous bow will be replaced, and the bow thruster will be removed. On April 12, 2013, at approximately 9 a.m., the Grimaldi ferry, 'Eurocargo Genova' (IMO: 9335865), encountered an unforeseen incident at the Port of Barcelona. While navigating its departure towards Livorno, the vessel experienced a sudden engine failure, leading to an allision with a concrete ramp at the port. The impact resulted in considerable damage to the ship’s bow, specifically above the waterline. In response to the incident, local tugs were dispatched and successfully assisted in maneuvering the ferry back to harbor by 3 p.m. Since then, the 'Eurocargo Genova' has been secured at Moll Ponent, awaiting further inspection and necessary repairs.
