Working Conditions Aboard the Express-1

A malfunction in the shore current system has rendered the 'Express 1' unable to utilize its shore power capabilities shortly after connecting at Øernes Quay in Rønne. Consequently, the connection had to be severed, highlighting the necessity for an upgrade in the ferry's technology to allow effective reception of shore power. Experts anticipate that the glitch will be resolved within the upcoming days, allowing for a successful reconnection.

On March 14, 2020, the ferry 'Express 1' encountered technical difficulties, leading to the cancellation of its scheduled departure from Rønne to Ystad at 10:30 a.m. In response, Bornholm Linjen promptly deployed the replacement ferry 'Povl Anker,' which set sail from Rønne at 11:15 a.m. and was expected to return from Ystad at 2:30 p.m. Unfortunately, this disruption caused delays along the route. Initially, the shipping company anticipated that 'Express 1' would resume operations with a new departure from Rønne at 2:30 p.m.; however, the ferry did not set off until 6:30 p.m. After comprehensive repairs, the Bornholm Line confirmed that 'Express 1' is once again operational, departing from Rønne at 18:30 and returning from Ystad at 20:30, following a day of cancellations replaced by M/F Povl Anker on the Rønne-Ystad route.

On July 27, the ferry "Express 1" experienced a significant engine failure, leading to the suspension of all ferry operations to and from Bornholm, affecting both the "MAX" and "Express 1" services. The operational issues persisted over the following days, including July 29, as the vessel struggled with its performance and reduced speed due to the malfunctioning engine. During this period, the Bornholm Line implemented entirely new schedules, resulting in delays that ranged from twenty minutes to an unprecedented three and a half hours. Despite these disruptions, the Bornholm Line opted not to activate the "Povl Anker" or to substitute other ferries for passengers, aiming to minimize confusion amid the ongoing delays. Repairs were ongoing, with hopes that the engine would be fully operational by July 30.
