Working Conditions Aboard the Falcon-ua

On May 13, 2010, the freighter 'Silver Fjord', IMO number 8300327, experienced a critical engine failure, leaving the vessel adrift off the picturesque coast of Westray in the Orkney Islands. The ship, which was transporting a cargo of fresh fruit and vegetables, had 10 crew members on board at the time. In response to the emergency, Shetland Coastguard promptly dispatched its emergency towing vessel, the 'Anglian Sovereign', along with a rescue helicopter based in Sumburgh. However, the situation was efficiently managed when the commercial tug from Orkney Towage, known as 'Harald', took over the tow operation. The 'Silver Fjord' was successfully guided to safety, arriving at Kirkwall harbor at 11:11 p.m. Reports indicated that the sea conditions were moderate, and the vessel was not considered to be in immediate danger. Fortunately, all crew members remained safe throughout this incident.
