Bulk Carrier Allides with Quay at Bà Rịa - Vũng Tà u Port
On July 31, 2019, at 1:00 PM, the bulk carrier "Fareast Honesty" encountered a significant incident while attempting to berth at the SSIT Port in Bà Rịa - Vũng Tà u, Vietnam, after its journey from Tanjung Merangas. The vessel, carrying a substantial load of coal for Tree Marine Co., unexpectedly veered off course as it navigated the Go Gia River channel and collided head-on with the quay at the container port of Quoc Quoc, narrowly avoiding the nearby gantry cranes. The impact resulted in part of the quay collapsing, while the bow of the "Fareast Honesty" sustained multiple breaches and considerable damage. Fortunately, the local container vessel "Phuoc Lang 26" managed to escape the incident by mere meters. However, another small container barge, "SG 3452," was struck on its starboard side, leading to significant damages but allowing it to remain afloat after being pushed off its berth. The bulk carrier was promptly guided to buoy BP 9 on the Goa River with the assistance of a pilot and tugboats, where it was safely moored afterwards. The Vung Tau Maritime Port Authority is actively collaborating with the Ho Chi Minh City Maritime Port Authority and other relevant agencies to investigate the circumstances surrounding this maritime accident.
