In a significant move to bolster its fleet, BW Dry Cargo has acquired a new supramax vessel for $12 million. Launched by BW Group in April 2023, BW Dry Cargo has quickly made a name for itself by focusing on vessels within the 50,000 dwt to 90,000 dwt range, demonstrating a robust strategy as one of the most aggressive buyers in the market this year. The latest addition to their fleet is the six-year-old Pearl Halo, a 58,096 dwt ship previously owned by Japan’s Nissen Kaiun, which has now been renamed BW Flax. This vessel, while not constructed in Japan, still bears the hallmark of Japanese craftsmanship, as it was built by Tsuneishi in the Philippines at their Cebu facility. With this acquisition, BW Dry Cargo continues to position itself as a formidable player in the dry bulk shipping sector.
