Vessel Experiences Bottom Touch Incident at Foyne Port
On June 12, 2018, the bulk carrier 'Federal Katsura' encountered a bottom touch incident while docked at Foyne Port. The vessel was moored during high tide with a draft measuring 10.5 meters, which aligns with the terminal's advertised safe draft. However, upon the subsequent low tide, the vessel made contact with the seabed, revealing only nine meters of water depth at the berth. The seabed, composed of soft mud, resulted in no reported damage to the ship. To verify the conditions and ensure safety, an underwater survey is scheduled for the next available opportunity. Additionally, dredging operations are planned to be conducted at the berth as soon as feasible. After this incident, 'Federal Katsura' departed from Foyne on June 15, continuing its journey to Waterford.
