On August 31, 2016, a harrowing incident unfolded when a crew member aboard the MV 'Federal Spey' sustained a severe finger injury. The vessel, which was navigating its course from Muuga to Santos, required urgent medical assistance. The Bembridge RNLI lifeboat was dispatched at approximately 12:30 p.m. to conduct a medivac operation in the busy waters of the Channel. After a painstaking hour of travel, the lifeboat arrived at the 'Federal Spey' and utilized the ship’s gangway ladder and a baggage hoist to safely transfer the injured crew member onboard. Once the rescue was complete, the lifeboat made its way back to the Isle of Wight, where an ambulance awaited to transport the individual to St Mary's Hospital for further treatment.
