Significant Fire Erupts in Cargo Hold of 'Federal Tweed' in Amsterdam
In the early hours of April 24, 2025, around 6 a.m., a substantial fire ignited in the cargo hold of the bulk carrier 'Federal Tweed' while it was docked at Amerikahaven Way in the Western Port Area of Amsterdam. The blaze produced a considerable amount of smoke, prompting local authorities to advise nearby residents to keep their windows and doors shut for safety. Reports of a burning odor were noted across various neighborhoods, specifically in Amsterdam-Geuzenveld, Osdorp, Badhoevedorp, and Lijnden. Emergency crews were seen employing a crane to methodically remove the smoldering scrap metal from the hold, which was subsequently placed on the quay for further containment and extinguishment.
