Tragic Incident on Finn III: Worker Seriously Injured in Rostock Port
On February 25, 2025, a serious accident occurred aboard the 'Finn III' while it was docked at berth 44 in Rostock's overseas port. At approximately 2:00 p.m., the Rostock Water Police Inspectorate (WSPI) received a report that a worker had fallen from the tween deck into the cargo hold of the ship. The incident took place around 1:15 p.m. during loading operations, resulting in the worker plummeting nearly six meters, causing life-threatening injuries. Initially, the worker lay motionless after the fall. In a commendable response, the ship's crew quickly administered first aid before attempting a rescue with the help of a crane. Unfortunately, the worker, a 58-year-old German resident of the Rostock district, sustained several fractures and a severe skull injury. Emergency medical services promptly transported him to Rostock University Hospital, where he underwent an immediate emergency operation and was placed in intensive care. The Rostock Water Police, in collaboration with the State Office for Health and Social Affairs (Lagus), has opened an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident. As of February 27, there has been no evidence suggesting any criminal wrongdoing, and the 'Finn III' has remained stationary at the port since the accident.
