On November 13, 2018, the Finnlines ferry 'Finnfellow' experienced a significant technical failure, resulting in a blackout in the scenic Erstan area of the Airisto passage within Turku's archipelago. The incident occurred shortly before midnight, just after the vessel had departed Naantali at 10 p.m. with 170 individuals aboard, including 136 passengers. As the ship ventured out, a generator malfunction triggered a complete power outage. The crew swiftly anchored the ferry at the side of the fairway, located between Erikvalla and Airismaa, and attempted to resolve the issue related to the shaft bearings but were unsuccessful. However, they managed to partially restore power by activating the emergency generator. Two tugboats were deployed to assist the 'Finnfellow' in safely navigating back to Naantali, where it docked around 1 a.m. on November 14.
