Working Conditions Aboard the Fishery-Researcher-1

On May 2, 2011, Taiwan dispatched the Fishery Researcher 1 (IMO 9054468) to investigate the safety of marine life for fishing around northern Japan. This decision comes in light of ongoing concerns linked to the nuclear crisis stemming from the Fukushima plant. The research vessel's mission focuses on waters situated east of Hokkaido island, approximately 750 kilometers from the affected nuclear facility. Since March 11, food production activities near the Fukushima site have been halted, raising questions about the safety of fish caught in the surrounding areas. Fishery Researcher 1 will conduct a series of tests and is expected to return on May 23, 2011, with crucial information that could affect regional fishing practices.
