Russian Officer Injured in Deck Fall Aboard 'BBS Sea'

A serious incident occurred on December 3, 2012, when the 1st officer of the 'BBS Sea,' a vessel operating under the IMO number [insert IMO number], sustained injuries after falling on the ship's deck. The unfortunate event unfolded around 9 a.m. as Water Police officials boarded the vessel in the small southern lock at Brunsbüttel to conduct a freeboard inspection. While navigating the wet, sloped deck, the 54-year-old Russian officer slipped, resulting in significant back and head injuries as he fell flat on his back. Despite wearing safety shoes at the time of the accident, he suffered bruises and a concussion. The officer was promptly transported to the West Coast Hospital Brunsbüttel for medical attention. Following the completion of the freeboard assessment, which revealed no surcharge, 'BBS Sea' was cleared to resume its journey to Kiel. Another deck officer subsequently boarded the vessel in the Kiel Holtenau lock to continue operations.
