Detention of the Francisca in Teignmouth: A Closer Look at Safety Violations
On December 1, 2025, the vessel 'Francisca' faced detention in Teignmouth, revealing a total of 12 significant deficiencies. Among these, five were classified as severe enough to warrant the detention of the ship: 1) Fire safety concerns due to missing fire doors and openings in fire-resisting divisions; 2) An inoperative fire detection and alarm system; 3) Insufficient emergency training as indicated by a lack of fire drill exercises; 4) Navigation safety issues stemming from outdated charts; and 5) Non-compliance regarding the ISM certificate that did not meet regulatory requirements. Cargo Vessels Collide in Kiel-Holtenau: The RMS Bremen and Francisca Incident
In the early hours of September 5, 2014, at approximately 2:30 a.m., a maritime mishap occurred involving the Cyprus-flagged cargo vessel m/v "RMS Bremen" (IMO: 9617301). The ship was navigating from Aveiro to Szczecin when it collided with another vessel, the "Francisca", which was making its way from Klaipeda to Honfleur. At the time of the incident, the "RMS Bremen" had just exited the locks of the Kiel Canal, heading eastbound into the Kiel Fjord. Unfortunately, the oncoming "Francisca" struck the "RMS Bremen" on its port side in a bow-on-bow collision, leading to substantial damage. The collision resulted in the bow of the "RMS Bremen" being breached and its hull becoming dented, while the "Francisca" also sustained serious damage on its port side. Following the incident, the "RMS Bremen" made an immediate docking at the North Jetty of Scheer Port in Kiel, with the "Francisca" arriving at around 8 a.m. Both vessels were subsequently detained for an investigation, and arrangements for repairs will be made once insurance matters have been addressed. Thankfully, no injuries were reported during this incident. For more details, you can view the photo report here: http://forum-schiff.de/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=1377&p=106883#p106883.
