In a significant development for the U.K. grain industry, Glencore Plc has announced the loading of its largest shipment of British feed wheat to date. The cargo, consisting of 70,000 metric tons, is currently being loaded at the Port of Immingham, located in northeast England, as of a Thursday statement. The vessel, named Trade Prosperity, is scheduled to embark for Vietnam in early July. Traditionally, such large shipments are uncommon during this period due to the limited supply before the harvest season begins in July, as indicated by James Maw, managing director at Glencore Grain U.K. However, the recent depreciation of the pound has enabled British grain exporters to enhance their global competitiveness. With last season's abundant crop contributing to a substantial surplus, U.K. feed wheat enjoys a competitive advantage over pricier corn. 'U.K. feed wheat is consistently holding its ground in the international feed-grain market,' Maw noted in a phone interview. 'The decline of the sterling has played a crucial role, positioning U.K. wheat favorably compared to corn prices.'
