On January 13, 2017, at 1:20 p.m., the cargo vessel 'Fredo,' which was navigating from Swinoujscie to Bremerhaven, encountered an unexpected grounding in the Kiel Canal after the Holtenau Canal Bridge. The incident occurred due to a blackout that also affected the vessel's bow thruster, rendering it unable to maneuver properly. Fortunately, by 2:35 p.m., the 'Fredo' managed to regain power and subsequently freed itself from the embankment. The vessel then secured at adjacent pilings before continuing its journey. By 3:30 p.m., 'Fredo' successfully berthed at the Bominflot Quay located in the North port of Kiel. Following a brief stop, the ship departed Kiel on January 14 at 6:00 p.m. and arrived at the Bredo Shipyard in Bremerhaven for necessary repairs on January 15 at noon.
