Ferry Incident Disrupts Juist Port Access
On March 25, 2013, the ferry "Frisia VII" found itself stranded off the coast of Juist due to exceptionally low tide conditions. This incident obstructed the fairway, forcing the "Frisia II," which was carrying 411 passengers, to abandon its route and return to Norddeich. The vessel docked at 6:30 p.m., where 185 passengers were provided accommodations for the night, complete with blankets, food, and beverages. Meanwhile, other travelers either found lodging in nearby hotels or made alternative travel arrangements. On the morning of March 26, at 9 a.m., the salvage vessel "Störtebeker" successfully freed the "Frisia VII" and towed it back to the port of Juist.
Ferry Frisia VII Runs Aground Near Juist, Successfully Refloated with Assistance
On December 20, 2012, the ferry "Frisia VII" found itself stranded in marshland just half a mile from the harbor entrance of Juist. Strong southwest winds, measured at 6 on the Beaufort scale, had caused the tide to fall one meter below its normal level, leading the vessel off its designated route. The situation escalated when the captain summoned the lifeboat "Woltera" from the DGzRS station in Juist. Despite their efforts, the crew faced challenges in successfully towing the ferry during the evening. After careful assessment, they opted to wait for the upcoming tide to assist in the operation. At 4:15 a.m. on December 21, the combination of the lifeboat's 320 horsepower and the ferry's own engine finally freed the "Frisia VII" from its predicament. The vessel made its way back to Juist, arriving around 5 a.m., escorted by the "Woltera". Unloading of essential supply goods for the island commenced immediately upon docking.
