FSRU Toscana: The World’s First Offshore Mooring for LNG Begins Operations Off Livorno
The FSRU Toscana, recognized as the world's pioneering offshore-moored floating storage and re-gasification unit (FSRU), has been officially delivered and is now permanently anchored off the picturesque coastline of Livorno, Italy. This state-of-the-art facility is set to serve as a crucial terminal and export hub for liquefied natural gas (LNG). The journey of the FSRU Toscana began with its transportation from Dubai, where it was converted from the LNG carrier Golar Frost, built in 2004. Two tugboats from Fairmount Marine, based in Rotterdam, facilitated its delivery, making a stop in Malta for the final touchups and equipment installations. Upon arrival in Livorno, these tugs were instrumental in securely mooring the Toscana to its six pre-installed anchors. With an impressive re-gasification capacity of 3.75 billion cubic meters annually, equivalent to 11 million cubic meters per day, and a substantial LNG storage capability of 137,500 cubic meters, the FSRU Toscana marks a significant advancement in the offshore LNG sector and is poised to enhance Italy's energy landscape.
FSRU Toscana Achieves Milestone by Paying Record Suez Canal Transit Fee
In a historic maritime achievement, the FSRU Toscana has set a new precedent by paying the highest transit fee ever recorded in the Suez Canal. This Italian-flagged floating storage and regasification unit, which recently underwent conversion at Dubai Drydocks, incurred a staggering fee of $5.5 million for its passage. At 288 meters in length and 48 meters in width, the FSRU Toscana ranks among the largest vessels currently operating in the global marine sector. This remarkable transit not only highlights the operational scale of the Toscana but also reflects the increasing significance of LNG infrastructure in international shipping. Source: GulfShip News
