Bulk Carrier 'Fu Xing Hai' Successfully Refloated After Grounding
On July 16, 2019, the bulk carrier 'Fu Xing Hai' found itself grounded in the Martin Garcia Channel while transporting 40,000 metric tonnes of iron ore from Nueva Palmira to Rotterdam. The incident partially blocked navigation, restricting passage to vessels with a draft of seven meters or less. However, after three days of dedicated efforts, the vessel was successfully refloated on July 19 at 2:45 p.m. with the assistance of three tugboats. Following the salvage operation, 'Fu Xing Hai' resumed its journey back to Nueva Palmira. Fortunately, no damage or environmental pollution has been reported as a result of the grounding, and the Martin Garcia Channel has now been cleared for safe navigation. The Sub-Prefecture of Carmelo closely monitored the ongoing salvage efforts to ensure a prompt resolution.
