On February 15, 2024, at approximately 7:20 a.m., the 'Fukuharu Maru' encountered a serious incident when it ran aground in the shallow waters off Akita City, specifically near the Ohama quay. At the time of the grounding, the vessel was carrying a cargo of cement and had nine crew members on board. The Akita Coast Guard promptly responded to the situation, deploying the patrol vessel 'Shinzan' to the location to conduct an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the accident. Reports indicate that the water depth near the port side of the bow was roughly one meter at the moment of grounding. Fortunately, the situation was resolved when two tugs successfully pulled the vessel free around 1:15 p.m. Following the rescue, the 'Fukuharu Maru' managed to navigate to a quay located roughly 800 meters to the north, taking about 40 minutes to safely berth.
