Two Suspected Human Traffickers Arrested After Rescue of 45 Migrants Near Gavdos

On January 21 at noon, the vessel 'Future' successfully rescued 45 individuals approximately 42 nautical miles south of Gavdos, a Greek island. Among those rescued, two men, aged 35 and 24, were identified as human traffickers by other survivors. These suspects allegedly charged migrants to facilitate their dangerous journey from Al Tamimi, Libya to Greece. In accordance with relevant laws, including article 25 of Law 5038/2023 (Immigration Code), article 83 of Law 3386/2005 (Illegal Entry), article 306 (Report) and article 45 (Abetment) of the Criminal Code, the two men have been apprehended. Additionally, authorities, led by the Central Port Authority of Chania, seized two mobile phones during their preliminary investigation into the incident.
