Working Conditions Aboard the Gahura

On December 15, 2025, the cargo vessel 'Gahura' was detained in Rijeka, Croatia, following the identification of 17 significant deficiencies, with ten categorized as severe enough to warrant suspension. Key issues included malfunctioning alarms for machinery controls, life-saving appliances such as rescue boats and lifeboats being unready for operation, and inadequate fire safety measures, including non-functional remote means of control for machinery spaces. Additionally, the vessel lacked proper fire doors and experienced deficiencies in its emergency systems, particularly in fire drill training and emergency power sources, which were deemed unsatisfactory. Environmental compliance was also a concern, with missing technical files and a malfunctioning Ballast Water Management System noted. Furthermore, the ship's International Safety Management (ISM) certificate did not meet the required standards. After addressing these substantial issues, the 'Gahura' was released on December 22, 2025, and continued its journey to Koper, arriving on December 23.
