Accident at Sea: Vessel Collision in the Strait of Singapore
On March 3, 2013, a maritime incident unfolded in the Strait of Singapore when the cargo ship 'Beks Halil' collided with another vessel, 'Thuan My.' The collision occurred approximately 3.4 kilometers south of Sisters Islands as 'Thuan My' unexpectedly veered across the path of the larger vessel. Video evidence from the scene captured the smaller ship turning to port just before the impact, while 'Beks Halil' was en route from Haldia to Navlakhi. The 'Thuan My,' unable to change its course or come to a stop, took a hit on the port side toward the aft section. Although the Singapore Coast Guard was summoned to the scene, fortunately, there were no injuries reported among the crew members. The Vietnamese-registered cargo ship sustained damage to one of its hatches and was later moved to the Raffles Reserved Anchorage for necessary repairs. Despite the incident, there was no disruption to maritime traffic in the busy Singapore Strait, and the bulk carrier 'Beks Halil' reported no significant damage, allowing it to continue its journey.
