Gas-Kumai Ship Details and Seafarer Feedback

On January 12, 2019, at approximately 10:30 a.m., the liquefied gas tanker 'No.5 SJ Gas' experienced a gas leak due to a defective valve while anchored at Dongying, located in Shandong Province, Bohai Sea. The vessel, which had recently docked after transporting 1,850 tons of LPG from Korea, identified the issue during the berthing process. The ship's master promptly informed local authorities and requested an anchorage for urgent repairs. Thankfully, the gas concentration around the tanker remained at safe levels, below the threshold for explosion risks, prompting the establishment of a safety zone extending three miles around the vessel. The crew of 15, comprising five members each from Myanmar, South Korea, and Indonesia, stayed aboard during the incident. In response to the situation, the tug 'Ling Hang Tuo 8' (MMSI: 412331530) was placed on standby. The leak was successfully halted by January 14, allowing the 'No.5 SJ Gas' to resume its journey from Pyeongtaek on January 17.
