Genco Shipping Expands Fleet with Acquisition of Capesize Vessels Genco Defender and Genco Liberty
Genco Shipping & Trading Limited, commonly referred to as Genco, has officially welcomed two significant additions to its maritime fleet with the delivery of Genco Defender and Genco Liberty. Both of these 2016-built Capesize vessels have a deadweight tonnage of 180,000 dwt and were delivered in September 2018. This acquisition aligns with Genco's strategic expansion plans, complementing the earlier announcements made throughout 2018. The Genco Defender and Genco Liberty represent the successful culmination of vessel acquisitions that Genco disclosed in July 2018. Additionally, Genco has also taken possession of the Genco Columbia, a 60,000 dwt Ultramax vessel built in 2016, marking the completion of a series of acquisitions initiated in June 2018. With these new additions, Genco continues to strengthen its operational capabilities in the competitive shipping industry.
Golden Union Shipping Divests Two Capesize Vessels to Genco Shipping for $49 Million Each
In a significant transaction in the maritime industry, Greek shipping company Golden Union Shipping has successfully sold two of its Capesize vessels, the ‘Malena’ and ‘Cic Trias’. These 180,000 deadweight tonnage ships, constructed in 2016 by Hanjin, have been acquired by clients of Genco Shipping based in the United States. Each vessel fetched an impressive price of $49 million, reflecting the strong demand for Capesize vessels in the current market. This sale marks another strategic move for Golden Union Shipping as they continue to reshape their fleet.
