A significant search and rescue operation was launched on May 9, 2012, after a crew member from the bulk carrier 'Genco Rhone' was reported missing. The alert was raised around 12:35 p.m. when the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) was informed that the vessel, which is anchored approximately four kilometers off Tanah Merah, required immediate assistance. To facilitate the searching efforts, the MPA coordinated a multifaceted operation that included two of its own craft and three from the Police Coast Guard. Navigational warnings have been disseminated to nearby vessels, instructing them to avoid the search area while also urging them to report any sightings of the missing individual. Meanwhile, the Police Coast Guard has commenced an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
