In a bold act of piracy on November 8, 2017, the bulk carrier 'Andromeda' fell victim to armed assailants in the early hours at 4:45 a.m. The incident occurred approximately 100 miles northeast of Singapore, with coordinates pinpointed at 02°53'N latitude and 105°17'E longitude. A group of five pirates, wielding knives, boarded the vessel, threatening the crew and seizing cash and valuables. In their haste, the intruders also vandalized communication equipment before making their escape. Fortunately, all crew members aboard the Andromeda were reported safe following the attack. At the time of the incident, the ship was on a voyage from Mormugao, India, headed towards China, traversing the busy South China Sea.
