First Dredging Operation of GIAN LORENZO BERNINI Commences at Zeebrugge
On March 15, 2014, the cutting-edge backhoe dredger 'GIAN LORENZO BERNINI' commenced its inaugural operation in Zeebrugge. This state-of-the-art vessel, owned by the Flemish dredging firm Jan De Nul, is set to undertake essential dredging tasks along the deepwater quays adjacent to the new CHD container quay at Westerhoofd in the Zeebrugge harbor. Over the next three weeks, the GIAN LORENZO BERNINI will perform dredging activities at three strategic locations within the port. Designed as a 'Ravenstein 900 B,' this impressive dredger measures 60.0 meters in length, 18.0 meters in width, and has a draft of 3.10 meters. Equipped with a Liebherr P995 hydraulic excavator capable of working in water depths of up to 30 meters, the dredger boasts a total installed capacity of 2,150 kW, with the excavator itself delivering 1,750 kW of power. For enhanced efficiency during dredging operations, the GIAN LORENZO BERNINI employs a modern system of spuds.
